MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY (MIS)
What is Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)?
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a procedure performed by surgeons which requires a less invasive
procedure to the body as compared to open surgery.
Laparoscopy – one of the first types of Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is a surgery done through one of more small
incision which uses tiny surgical instrument (trocars) and tiny video camera. Number of incisions and
placement of incisions varies depending on the procedure to be performed.
Modern advances in MIS technology paved the way for the use of robotic surgery. MIS robotic surgery
provides a magnified 3D view of the surgical site, which gives the surgeon more control and flexibility,
allowing for a more accurate and precise performance of the procedure.
MIS surgery procedures have widened its scope, up to date, more and more procedures are getting
minimally invasive and it is now getting to be a trend in the healthcare.
-Lesser trauma to organs, muscles, tissues and nerves
-Shorter hospital Stay
-Increased safety (low risk for infection)
-Faster recovery Period
